I iterated very clearly that it was my birthday and I was waiting for my friends. She again engaged me with defensive hostility. I could see she really needed to argue more or somehow win. When I met her gaze after several prolonged hateful glances at me she was further triggered. The musicians came around with their tip bucket and I shared, glad to have heard some soulful music. As she clearly wasn't satisfied with my answer she took measures to aggressively trolled me such as staring me down, sitting across from me whispering. She then engaged in a back and forth, which seemed triggered by my not ordering a drink right away. I replied that I was waiting for friends. After I'd been there for about 10 minutes I was approached by a woman who asked me if I wanted something. I scanned the room and didn't see my friends so, I sat at a bench near a table to enjoy the vocalist and small band that was playing. At a glance upon arrival, it was a neighborhood speakeasy that had hyper-local character such as eclectic decor, tattered vinyl benches, and fixtures that have stood the test of time along with a crowd of music lovers. On a whim, I decided to meet old friends for a birthday toast at Paris Blues. Tomi Jazz is worth the wait and it's gonna be at the top of our list whenever we're in the area again. Our server said it was his favorite on the menu and we can definitely see why.

And the chikuwa was delicate and delicious. The wasabi had a nice kick but wasn't unbearable, and this is coming from someone who didn't enjoy wasabi until now. We also got the octopus with wasabi and chikuwa with mozzarella cheese, and we could not recommend these more.

My partner tried 3 different sakes and enjoyed them all, and I was a big fan of the lemon drops. I considered asking our server if we could move when other chairs opened up, but he beat me to the punch and moved us right next to the music. But after walking through the rain and waiting in line, we didn't mind. We were first seated at the only spots available when we walked in, two spots at the bar, behind a wall. The two item minimum is a fair and reasonable price no matter where you go, but especially in Manhattan. We could hear the music from the stairs outside and knew it was worth the wait. My partner and I got in line on a Saturday night at 10:30 and waited probably 45 minutes to get in. As far as food is concerned, I will stick to cocktails and an appetizer. If you are going to theīlue Note in New York City purely for the music then I would say it’s worth it. I do understand that not everything can start on time but at the same time I don’t understand how you can take my money in a timely fashion, however, your performers and your place cannot start timely. I traveled out of state for this and most likely will not do it again.

I don’t feel it was worth the money because the food is not that great and the show did not start on time even though they were really good. Blue Note had a 10:30 PM show which means you had to be out probably by 10 PM so they can set up for the next set of guests. However we got there for 6 PM to have an appetizer cocktails and dinner and the band was to start at 8 PM however they did not start until 8:35 PM which I find inexcusable. The place was sold out so it was very crowded and the band was really good.

As an entrée I ordered the pork loin which was very bland and overpriced. Their signature Blue Martini was good! We ordered The fried calamari which I felt was undercooked because the outside was not crunchy.
